Nanocrystal Quantum Dot Devices
Voxtel is developing novel nanocrystal quantum dots (NQDs), organic–inorganic SWIR photodetectors, photovoltaics, and thermoelectric materials that use solutions-processible materials sensitive to ultra-violet, visible, and NIR light. By combining specially designed nanocrystal quantum dots with a polymer to make a plastic that can detect photons across the visible and invisible spectrums, low-cost detectors and solar cells are possible.
These polymer/nanocrystal composites are made without the expense of traditional semiconductor fabrication. By using simple thin-film techniques, we sidestep the exotic ovens and vacuum chambers needed to fabricate epitaxial detectors. Flexible and roller-processed detector and solar cell materials have immense commercial value.
