Requirements
Ph.D. in physics, electrical engineering (EE), or electrical and computer engineering (ECE) with dissertation work encompassing III-V compound semiconductor device design, fabrication, and characterization; non-Ph.D. applicants with equivalent experience will be considered. Experience in device packaging, detector hybridization, and high-speed circuit design is a major plus, as is specific experience with photodiode design and characterization. The successful applicant will work closely with another Ph.D. who specializes in photodiode design and epitaxial layer growth; a complementary skill set with greater emphasis on wafer processing, device characterization, and circuit applications would be ideal, but knowledge of semiconductor device physics and optoelectronic design is required. A motivated, self-directed individual is desired, with good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to plan and manage research projects.
Responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for the design, planning, and execution of photodiode manufacturing processes run at foundry partners. This includes photomask layout, process specification, and foundry interface. Other responsibilities include working with foundry partners to develop packaging and hybridization processes, management of photoreceiver circuit development by in-house electrical engineers, and oversight of Voxtel’s in-house device testing personnel. The successful applicant will be responsible for coordinating the design interface between photodiodes and receiver circuitry, and will be expected to assist test engineers in designing experiments and interpreting device characterization data. Lastly, the successful applicant will be expected to participate in business development and program management activities, including authorship of technical proposals and reports, customer interface, and planning and deploying company resources to meet customer goals.
Voxtel is commercializing high-speed, high-sensitivity, low-noise image sensor technology, readout integrated circuits, and signal processing chips.
This hands-on leadership position requires a very good knowledge of EDA tools and an appreciation and experience in packaging and testing. You will be responsible for specifying, designing, and verifying analog and mixed-mode functional blocks in advanced CMOS processes. A track record of leading the design of several successful sub-micron CMOS chips produced in volume is essential.
Requires a BSEE with 7 years experience, or an MSEE with 5 years experience; a solid design background and a proven track records among areas of image sensors, transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs), sample-and-hold circuits, programmable gain amps, video rate AD/DA converters and voltage regulators. Direct experience in ADC design or CMOS image sensor design is desirable.
Hands-on experience designing and bring to market board-level, analog circuits is required, including experience with low-noise preamplifier circuits and high-speed signal conditioning circuits for photodetectors, photoreceivers, and electro-optical instrumentation. Design applications experience should include single-photon detection, laser radar (LADAR), telecommunications, and scientific instrumentation. General Analog Circuit design experience, including low noise, low distortion circuits is required, and experience with sensor interfaces and electro-optical systems operating in the 1-GHz to 10-GHz frequency range is highly desired. Board-Level Designs will be targeted for room temperature, as well as thermoelectrically and cryogenically cooled environments.
Requires BSEE, at a minimum, but an MSEE is preferred, or equivalent, and 7 years of experience as described above.
This Senior Electronics Design Engineer position will perform a key role in the development of near-infrared (NIR) and infrared (IR) detector cameras, photoreceivers, laser radar (LADAR) systems, and instrument products. The primary responsibilities of the position include system electronics architecture design, detailed circuit design of analog and digital subsystems, prototype debug, test, and evaluation, and generation of design documentation for transfer to production. Technical leadership responsibilities of the position include contribution to R&D contract proposals, electronics development program planning and management, and the direction of fellow design teams members. Familiarity with design tools for digital and analog circuit design, including FPGA CAD tools, analog circuit simulation tools, and schematic entry/management tools is required.
Requires a BSEE, at a minimum, but an MSEE is preferred, with more than 5 years practical electronics design experience. Experience with imaging systems, video systems, or instrumentation design is ideal. Familiarity with printed circuit board and FPGA design methodologies is required. Knowledge of OrCad Capture, Xillinx tools, and military and CE standards will be considered most beneficial.
Voxtel has openings in its Beaverton, OR, location for a professional to lead optical system design and development programs of laser range grated imaging systems. This analytical position will focus on the design and implementation of advanced CMOS Imager based systems. Position requires a strong background in electronics and electronic systems engineering. First-hand experience in one or more of the following areas is required: embedded systems, electro-optical/ mechanical design, thermal management, solid-state laser development, firmware (PIC and FPGA) and/or software development using C/C++. Image acquisition or display systems experience is desirable.
Requires a BS/Master’s/Ph.D. in Image Science, Optics, Physics or Electrical Engineering, plus 5-10 years industry experience in electro-optical design or related science; optical system design, including lens, sensors (CCD/CMOS) and illumination subsystems; experience with electro-optic test methodology and test equipment; and analytical modeling experience (Code V, Zemax, Light Tools or equivalent).
The Imaging Device Test & Characterization Engineer will have an excellent understanding of visible and infrared imager performance issues in testing and be able to define the testing required for low noise focal plane detectors used in government, scientific, and space-based applications. In this position, the engineer will perform extensive electrical evaluation and optical performance testing of CMOS imaging devices, III-V avalanche photodetectors, and advanced near infrared (NIR) detectors. Testing involves heavy reliance on data acquisition and analysis using computers and also ability to program computers. Experience with electronic test equipment, computers and vacuum systems and a basic understanding of semiconductor device physics and basic optics is required.
The successful candidate will initially be involved in the development of new test systems, especially the software, for conducting tests of avalanche photodiodes. The goal of this effort is automation of tests that are currently carried out with extensive engineering presence. Primary responsibilities include device evaluation, development of Automatic Test Systems, data acquisition and analysis, and development of new tests and test procedures. Other responsibilities will include radiometric test equipment set-up, FPGA programming, and test board design.
Requires a BSEE or BS Physics with 5 years experience with test devices, imaging device testing, and analog/digital circuit design. Besides the these education and experience requirements, the successful candidate must demonstrate be ability to: plan, develop, and implement procedures for testing and evaluating production and engineering imaging devices in accordance with applicable industry and/or governmental standards; develop test procedures, compile data, and make recommendations for changes required in test equipment, procedures, manufacturing processes, data management, and design of test equipment; prioritize product test schedules based on product introduction, manufacturing, and engineering schedules; and recommend and/or assist in the purchase of test equipment.
The responsibilities of the Senior Device Engineer are to lead the design and development of novel integrated semiconductor detector designs based on customer requirements and a strong knowledge of the field and scientific literature, provide hands-on design, simulation, modeling, and analysis of these devices, and provide direction to the R&D team for the appropriate design of experiments, fabrication, testing, and evaluation of performance for these devices. Other requirements include in depth knowledge of 1310 nm/1550 nm semiconductor devices (e.g., semiconductor lasers, APDs, PIN detectors, etc.), Proven ability as an innovator, team motivator, and team member, and hands-on engineer.
Requires a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent and at least 5 years of technical experience in active device design, hands-on experience in computer simulation/numerical modeling of passive and active photonic devices, in depth understanding of semiconductor fabrication processes and device testing, and a track record of effective performance at the Senior Scientist level or higher.
The Senior Systems Engineer will lead the development of custom CMOS and infrared camera systems for high reliability applications. Responsible for defining the system architecture and providing conceptual guidance in the design and test of low noise focal plane detectors used in both high-speed video and scientific space-based applications. Lead cross-functional teams including optical, electrical, software, mechanical, and thermal engineers to develop and to optimize detector system performance. Provide management of cost, schedule, and system performance to meet program goals.
Requires a BS in Engineering or a related technical field, plus 10 or more years experience. Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Two years of experience may be substituted for each year of education. In addition to the typical educational and experience requirements, a demonstrated capability to adequately perform the essential functions and responsibilities of the position and to exhibit the skills and competencies of a senior level engineer are necessary.
We seek a Development and Test Engineer for advanced silicon and III-V detectors and focal plane array imagers. The applicant must be analytic, innovative and a great team player, able to proactively communicate and work with all employees in a fast-paced R&D and manufacturing environment. An in-depth knowledge of test instrumentation and software, with a hands-on experience with LabView, C++ or visual basic, is expected, as are excellent data analysis skills and experience in correlating a variety of test and characterization data (both in-line and on finished devices) back to materials and processes. This requires an understanding of the influence of materials and process parameters on reliability and performance in integrated chips.
Project management skills, experience in creating statistically designed experiments, and understanding of statistical process control methodologies are desired, and a working knowledge of data analysis software, SQL database tools and SPC would be a plus.

Responsible for the development of innovative test and characterization solutions for the development, engineering, and manufacturing of low noise and high speed detectors. Expertise in characterization and design of High speed RF components and systems is a plus. Responsibilities include design and development of test method, test HW, SW and analysis tools. The individual must have hands-on experience in automated device characterization, test software development and preferably a background in optoelectronic device development.
Specifically, a strong understanding of device physics is expected. The use of optical and electronic modeling/simulation software to model and test electro-optical devices is essential.
Requires a Master’s degree (MA/MSci/MSc/MEng/etc.) and at least 3 years of experience. Additionally, three years of post graduate experience is desirable.
The Detector Product Engineer has responsibility and authority to establish new processes and to improve existing processes related to transforming semiconductor silicon, germanium, gallium arsenide, and indium phosphide materials into detectors by ensuring that all new detectors and associated processes are properly documented and validated, that Bills of Materials are complete and accurate, and that an appropriate pilot run has been completed to the satisfaction of the ISO9001-documented New Product Introduction process.
Additionally, the Detector Product Engineer will manage production support engineering for a specific product or group of products during and after transfer from design to volume production; will interface with design, process, test and reliability engineering to solve technical problems; will help sustain products with cost reduction and yield improvement efforts; will act as the primary technical interface with internal and external product customers; and will work closely with R&D and manufacturing engineering to qualify new products for volume production.
This position requires a Master’s degree in Semiconductor Physics, Materials Science, or Semiconductor Detector Development, and five years of related experience, or a B. S. degree and seven years of related experience. A PhD in materials science or semiconductor device physics is preferred. Also, the successful candidate must meet these specific skill, policy, and regulatory requirements:
